Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a six session educational program for family caregivers of older adults. The program empowers family caregivers to reduce stress, isolation, depression and other negative health impacts. Caregivers will be exposed to a wealth of self-care tools to: reduce personal stress; change negative self-talk; communicate their needs to family members and healthcare of service providers; communicate more effectively in challenging situations; recognize the message in their emotions; deal with difficult feelings; make tough caregiving decisions. Class participants also receive a copy of The Caregiver Handbook, developed specifically for the class. This class, sponsored by the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, meets 90 minutes once a week for six weeks. Class size is limited at 15, and registration is required by March 13. Cost is $10 for materials.
Dates: Fridays, March 24 – May 5 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Dethlefs Community Center, 217 Hillcrest Ave., Spicer, MN.
